A pathologist at Lake of the Woods District Hospital says a seatbelt likely would not have saved the life of Gloria Assin.
The woman from Grassy Narrows First Nation was in the back seat of a Chevy Tahoe police cruiser, when it was hit by a transport early in the morning on September 23rd, 2012.
Dr. Kelly McDonald says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to her right shoulder area.
She also had secondary injures to her head, but suggests those didn’t factor in her death.
McDonald says due to the where the transport hit the cruiser, a seatbelt wouldn’t have helped.
The semi hit the rear panel of the drivers side of the SUV.
The inquest continues in Kenora.
