It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Harvey James Aho, on Saturday May 7, 2016. Harvey passed away in Fargo, North Dakota while taking in a Garth Brooks concert, a gift on their 43rd anniversary. He passed peacefully with his family at his side.
Harvey was born in Dryden on February 15th, 1948 to Bill (Rinta) Aho and May (Finlayson) Johnson. He joined his older brother Roald Aho at home in Waldhof.
Harvey married Connie McQueen on May 4th, 1973 and they have resided in Dryden since then. Together they raised 4 much loved children: Bill (Kathy) Aho, Dryden; Kathleen (Mark) Nault, Rainy River; Rob Aho, Dryden; and Kristan (Adam) Aho, Winnipeg; grandchildren Noah and Phoenix Nault, Samantha, Mackenzie and Hunter Aho. Poppa loved them all.
Harvey’s life took many paths: he was always a man who loved the bush as a young boy in Waldhof. He helped his dad, mom and brother in the minnow business. After graduating grade 12, he attended Ryerson Polytechnical in Toronto, graduating with a Civic Technology degree. He made a choice after the birth of his son Billy to stay in Dryden and work at the mill. His last job was journeyman electrician where he retired January 1, 2004.
Trapping and commercial fishing became more than a side line after retirement. He loved all that nature had to offer: camping, fishing, hunting, seeking out fire wood, camp fires and lazy days on the beach.
Over the years, Harvey played many sports and was always challenged to be the best. Judo, football, bowling, fast ball, slow pitch, curling, and after he retired, golf.
Harvey’s life was lost too soon. He had many more things he would have liked to do. He will be missed not only by his wife, children, and grandchildren, but also by his brother, brothers and sisters in law who really were his, also nieces and nephews who loved him. Harvey’s coworkers, coffee friends, casino bus trip friends, school friends, fishing and trapping friends and his children’s friends all meant a great deal to him.
Big hands, big heart.
A memorial funeral service to celebrate Harvey’s life will be held Saturday May 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Dryden and District Agricultural Centre with Ora Semeniuk officiating.
