Goldcorp has confirmed layoffs at the Red Lake mine.
Mine Manager Dan Gignac says 94-employees received layoff notices Tuesday morning.
Gignac says impacted employees include both production and office staff in a number of departments.
The reduction is part of the company’s ongoing restructuring and cost reduction program.
Gignac says it coincides with the need to manage a solid operating budget this year despite lower gold prices.
Goldcorp has arranged for job transition counseling, workshops and information kits to help impacted staff.
He notes there are currently 1,400 staff employed at the mine.
