A number of Northern Ontario residents will likely not take this news with open arms.
A spokesman for Natural Resources Minister John Snobelen says the Spring Bear Hunt will not be reinstated in Ontario.
Paul Demers says the leaders of all three political parties have clearly stated they dont want it brought back.
The Ontario Black Bear Association, which includes lodge owners and tourists outfitters, wants the province to reconsider the cancellation.
The group, with ties in Dryden, claims there are nearly 200 orphaned bear cubs at rehabilitation centres across the province, and the number is growing.
They state this was not a problem when there was a spring hunt.
