Patrice Dutton (nee Hagar)
Feb 1st 1952 – Feb 28th, 2018
With great sadness the family of Patrice Dutton announces her passing on February 28th 2018 in Thunder Bay, with her family by her side.
Patrice was born in Port Arthur in 1952 to Margaret and Donald Hagar and was raised in Cochrane, Thunder Bay, and Kenora Ontario.
She attended Hammarskjold and Beaver Brae secondary schools and studied Social Work at the University of Manitoba.
It was while working for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in the summer of 1972 that she met the love of her life, Paul Dutton. Patrice and Paul married in September of 1974.
Shortly after she began her life as a dedicated mother to Jeremy and Erin, who have particularly fond memories of her home baked cookies, and numerous summers spent at Blue Lake.
Patrice’s love for her family, her oversized heart, and her desire to contribute to her community are the qualities most people will recall fondly.
After moving their family to Dryden in 1985 they joined the First United Church where Patrice became an active member of the UCW. Patrice was always cooking and baking for, or helping to organize church suppers, bazaars, and other events at the church. She was also an active volunteer for several other organizations including the Cancer Society, Dryden Literacy, the DRHC, and as a volunteer canvasser for both the Kidney Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
When she wasn’t volunteering her time she was entertaining her friends and family with her wonderful cooking and hospitality.
Patrice also had a passion for dancing and never turned down and opportunity to boogie down.
Patrice and Paul spent 12 winters in Port Aransas, Texas, which became a second home.
In addition to developing a love of the Chinese tile game Mahjong, Patrice made many friends with other “winter Texans” from across the US and Canada, and they, along with her Canadian friends and family, will greatly miss her spirit and heart.
Patrice is survived by her husband of 45 years Paul Dutton, her son Jeremy Dutton of Calgary, Alberta; daughter Erin Dutton of Roberts Creek, British Columbia; her brother Reg Hagar (Kim) of Kenora, Ontario, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother and father and most recently by her sister Donna Moroz (Gill) in 2015.
A celebration of Patrice’s life will take place on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00AM at the First United Church in Dryden, with the Rev. Erin McIntyre officiating.
Internment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations in Patrice’s memory can be made to the DRHC CT Scan Fund, or the Keep Port Aransas Beautiful, Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund.
