A warm welcome for those involved in the Little Bands Native Youth Hockey Tournament.
An opening ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon at the Dryden Memorial Arena for the 800-participants in the week long event.
Mayor Greg Wilson says there’s a buzz in the community.
Wilson says he loves walking around and watching the young visitors play hockey in area parking lots.
Wilson is encouraging area youth to get out and join the youngsters to make them feel welcome.
He notes hosting the tournament has its economic benefits but says the important thing is promoting integration.
Wilson says if you see a participant or visitor on the street, take time to say hi and find out more about them and their community.
He’s hoping to take the tournament one step further next year, with schools partnering with a visiting First Nation before the event.
