Ontario is trying to correct a long-standing trend in provincial politics.
Chief Returning Officer Greg Essensa says Ontario is the only province that has never had an aboriginal MPP.
He is hoping the creation of two new ridings for the far north might change that statistic. He says the population of the proposed new Kiiwetinong Riding, which is north of Dryden, is 60 percent aboriginal.
The new riding would include Sioux Lookout, Ear Falls and Red Lake as well.
The population of the other proposed riding, Mushkegowuck, is just 15 percent aboriginal, but 61 percent French.
The Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission will be releasing it's final recommendations to the Attorney General on August 1st.
