The Kenora District Services Board says it has very aggressive plans for 2018.
The Board has an extra $13-million to work with.
Henry Wall is the Chief Administrative Officer and says they are committed to building more social housing and developing more child care spaces.
Wall says there could be more than 150 extra child care spaces in 2018, and more than 100 new social housing units.
He stresses they need to take drastic action, stressing they can't sustain the current path that communities are on.
Wall says they will be working with area communities and Indigenous leaders.
He adds Queen's Park is starting to pay attention to the needs of the north with a boost in funding.
