While the Northwestern Health Unit has ordered municipalities to pass smoke-free bylaws by next year, it also wants communities to tell them how they will eliminate indoor second-hand smoke by May 31st.
Friday is World No Tobacco Day, however several municipalities are not rushing into making decisions.
Sioux Lookout Council indicates it does not plan to meet the deadline and plans to do more research.
Dryden Council plans to examine a bylaw for first and second reading on June 10th.
Under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, municipalities could face fines if bylaws are not adopted.
