If you stumble upon a young fawn over the next few weeks, leave it alone because mom is likely coming back.
Deer Biologist Joe Kennedy tells us during the natural feeding cycles, fawns are often left alone for six to eight hours.
Kennedy stresses female deer have very strong mothering instincts and will return.
He says they aren’t aware of does being aggressive while protecting their fawns but it could happen so it’s wise to steer clear of the newborn fawns.
Kennedy notes the deer will likely take up residence in wooded areas and subdivisions.
Birthing season is now underway.
