The Kenora District Services Board says "enough is enough" and the days of setting up individuals in need of housing to fail are over. T
he KDSB says there are a number of housing units across the district that don't live up to health, safety and property standards.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says they are taking immediate action by engaging with the municipalities and the Northwestern Health Unit to crack down on living standards.
In one case, Wall says Police received 908 calls for service in just over four years at one particular unit in relation to assaults, drug use, trafficking and other issues.
He says failing that, the KDSB will no longer provide shelter allowances to those who don't provide suitable living conditions.
Finally Wall stresses enforcement on so-called "slum lords" is falling through the cracks and they have seen enough.
