Mental health issues in the workplace is costing the country billions of dollars.
That’s according to the President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada Louise Bradley.
She says every week in Canada, half a million people call in sick due to a mental health problem.
Bradley notes it costs around $50-billion a year in lost productivity, absenteeism and disability claims, all due to mental health issues in the workplace..
Bradley says if this trend continues, the issue will become an even bigger problem over the next 25 to 30 years.
She notes many incidents go unreported and untreated because of the stigma related to mental illness.
