Flags are proudly flying high across northwestern Ontario in honour of the region's Francophone community.
It's in advance to Sunday's province-wide recognition of Franco-Ontarian Day, however events were held Friday in Dryden, Ignace and Red Lake.
A large group of French language elementary and secondary students joined teachers and parents at Dryden City Hall for an energetic and high spirited ceremony.
Jailynn Machett and Nicholas Roy talked about the importance of recognizing French language education and its role in the community.
They stressed the importance of learning French and the future opportunities that will be available as a result.
Roy and Machett say a number of doors will open with them learning a second language.
The event was held to show that the Francophone community is part of Northwestern Ontario's identity.
