The Ministry of Natural Resources is preparing for a new forest fire season.
The season is officially underway and will run until October 31st.
Information Officer John Scott isn’t anticipating a busy start to the season.
Scott says they will spend the first couple of weeks bringing crews and equipment on board and ensuring they are ready to go.
The fire hazard is low across the northwest, however the southern portion of the region is drying up.
The MNR is coming off its quietest fire season in 50-years in northwestern Ontario, with only 130-fires burning just over 1,220 hectares of land.
Scott isn’t offering a prediction for this year.
