The Dryden Police Service has long complained about the cost and time commitment of providing prisoner transfer service and court security.
Now, Mayor Greg Wilson is getting involved, promising to bring up the costly issue with government officials.
Wilson calls the practice another form of provincial downloading.
Wilson says right now the City absorbs roughly $2.4-million in total downloaded costs and notes that figure continues to rise.
He says that means taxpayers are left footing the bill.
Wilson plans to voice his opposition at next month’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference in Ottawa.
