Canadian Forces members have been asked to consider staying out of uniform unless on active duty, as Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa remains an active crime scene following today’s deadly shooting.
The request comes after one soldier was killed and two other people were injured in the shooting, after gunfire broke out at two separate locations on Wednesday morning.
The name of the deceased hasn’t been released but police say he was a reservist from Hamilton who was taking a turn as part as this fall’s Ceremonial Guard watching over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Officials confirm the solider was shot at the National War Memorial just before 9 a.m., and shots were again fired inside Parliament Hill a short time later.
One male gunman has been killed, but police are not saying if other suspects are on the loose.
