The claims in the action, which have not been proven in court, allege the province was negligent in how it operated the facilities.
The action was recently given the green light by the court.
The Northwest Regional Centre, an extension of Thunder Bay’s Psychiatric Hospital, is one of the 12 institutions.
A Spokesperson for the Ministry of the Attorney General says they won’t comment on the matter since it’s before the courts.
