The Keewatin Patricia District School Board has decided to fast track the renovation of Ear Falls Public School.
The community will basically see a brand new school once the project is completed in 2019.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says the planning and consultation phase will begin right away.
There will be a full-year relocation for staff and students in 2018-2019.
Monteith says they will look at setting up portables and outside housing during construction.
He notes it will be short term pain for long term gain.
Monteith says the new look school will be more open and bright with windows in every classroom.
He adds there will be new heating, cooling and air systems for the benefit of students and staff.
Monteith says he's thrilled with the decision, noting it will bring the learning environment for kids into the ever-changing 21st century.
The cost of the project is $4.5-million and is covered under a provincial grant.
The existing school was built in 1970.
