The person seeking the candidacy for the Liberal party in Kenora-Rainy River is applauding a decision by the provincial government to establish a Community Justice Centre in Kenora.
Karen Kejick says the centre will help protect vulnerable people accused of low-level crimes.
She says we need to make sure that youth, who have been charged with minor crimes, know that there are better options to live a safe and prosperous life.
Kejick believes that approaching justice in innovative ways will help end the cycle of criminal behaviour and create safer and stronger communities.
She says the centre is an important part of the reconciliation process.
Kejick also believes that by connecting low-risk offenders with counselling, employment training and supportive housing, the Centre will help reduce incarceration rates.
