A Waterloo man is one month into a cross-country bike ride to break the stigma surrounding depression and raise funding for mental health initiatives.
23-year-old Martin Bauman stopped in Dryden this week as part of his 7,500 kilometre journey from Vancouver, B.C. to St. John's, Newfoundland.
Bauman says he's seen so many people dear to him suffer in silence.
He notes depression is prevalent in his family and among his friends but adds he's also seen tremendous strength in those who have suffered by opening up and sharing their stories.
Bauman is hoping his bike ride will open up conversation on an important issue.
