The remote northern community of Nibinamik First Nation, about 500-kilometres north of Thunder Bay, has been evacuated due to heavy smoke from nearby forest fires.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says a community-wide power outage also factored into the evacuation.
Four separate fires are burning about 10-kilometres northwest of the community.
Multiple crews and helicopters are focused on the southeast perimeter of the blaze stopping the fire from spreading towards Nibinamik.
Right now the fires aren’t threatening the First Nation.
Some 354-residents are now being housed in Kapuskasing.
