Patients who have to travel to the city for cancer treatment are paying more to stay at the Tbaytel Tamarack House on the grounds of the Regional Hospital.
Manager Trina Diner explains the reaction to the increase was substantial and patients were concerned.
“I think there was a bit of a sticker shock initially, from folks who didn’t realize that the Northern Health Travel Grant has been increased to that exact amount [that Tamarack House now charges].”
The provincial government updated the grant in November.
Diner tells us the rate is now $100 per night, up to a maximum of $550 for eight nights or more.
She notes that when patients realize the cost is the same as the travel grant, they are relieved. (File Photo)
