Four remote communities in northwestern Ontario are getting provincial funding for education programs and to help improve access to safe, nutritious food.
The Pikangikum and the Kasabonika First Nations will share over $1.4-million to evaluate their Indigenous food security initiatives, and promote the harvesting of traditional foods.
Another $600,000 will go to the Fort Severn First Nation for an education program.
It’s aimed at helping over 300 mothers and their children return to school so they can graduate.
