Joyce Barker
August 30, 1936 ~ October 5, 2018
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Joyce Elvida Barker who left us peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on October 5th, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Central Butte Saskatchewan to Esther Weberg & Charles Mason. She was raised in Chaplin but her family later relocated to Eagle River.
Joyce worked at Marion McLellan’s store where she met the love of her life. The story of “Screwball and Grumpy” began here. They were married on August 18, 1956. They had four beautiful children together and built a life filled with many happy memories of travelling, farming and raising their family. She was the happiest surrounded by people which is why she took pride in all her business ventures, including Barker’s General Store, 5 Acres Restaurant, being a postmaster and continuing on helping with Barker’s Trucking.
Joyce was most proud of being a mom, grandma and great grandma. She spent countless hours making her grandchildren happy, whether it be making forts, playing house and dentist or even playing ministicks. She was the greatest support to her grandkids and was always their biggest “fan” when it came to sports. When you had a problem grandma was the one to call because you knew she would listen and you wouldn’t be in trouble. Joyce was selfless in all she did. She had the biggest heart and didn’t judge anyone. In fact, she accepted everyone, most of them calling her “grandma” as well. Joyce was always open to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it, especially making sure everyone had food on the table and a warm place to sleep. Her heart and door were always open. Joyce loved animals and you would often find her outside in -40c making sure the horses (or whatever animals Grumpy had) were fed and watered. There was always room on the couch or in bed for her dogs and cats.
Lilacs and tranquil moments will always be the smells of grandma or quite often the grandkids when she would bath them.
Joyce is survived by her four children Russell (Linda) Barker, Charlene (Dale) Peeters, Candice (Brad) Elyk and Jaymes (Lesley) Barker, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother Rod (Angela) Campbell, sister-in-law Ann Barker, brother-in-law Don Barker, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Gordon (January 15, 2013), her brother Delmer Weberg and sister Noranda Anderson.
The family wishes to thank Princess Court for the care and making it her “home” and the staff at Dryden Regional Health Centre & Dr. Gagnon for the excellent care and comfort you provided in her final days.
As per Joyce’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place.
In Dr. Cortens words “if the world was full of Joyce’s, it would be a better place.”
