(January 30; S.Campbell) It was an all Dryden final at the Kathy Saunders Memorial Hockey Tournament. Petro Can defeated the Dryden Herricanes 5-3 in the PeeWee Final. (January 22; G.Nickle) Approximately 100 bus drivers and their Base Managers gathered in Dryden to take advantage of a day designated as a professional activity day in the school boards. The Northwestern Ontario Student Services Consortium provides school bus services for all the school boards located from Upsala to the Manitoba border and includes the northern communities of Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake. All five school bus operators were represented with their drivers. This is the eighth year for this annual event and is referred to as Regional Safety Day. (January 29; C.Mallyon) Fire destroyed a semi-tractor trailor unit on Highway 1 in Manitoba near McMunn. The RCMP in Falcon Lake were contacted about the blaze around 8 AM Thursday Jan 19 Police say the driver of the rig noticed a mechanical problem and pulled over in a parking lot and discovered the fire.
